Winch, Edward Charles – Born: Little Horkesley, Essex on 21.3.1907.[1] Parents: Frederick Winch of Bulmer Tye, Essex (Waiter) and Emma Mortley [née Ivey]. Home: Pot Kilns, Great Cornard, Suffolk (1911 to 1921), Meadow View, Sudbury Road, Great Cornard (1939), 77 Bures Road, Great Cornard [1994]. Occupation: Ironmonger’s Shop Assistant (1921), Foreman Warp Knitter (1939). Married: Cynthia Burnett Hurst in 1941. Service Record: Edward was a member of the Local Defence Volunteers, being part of ‘H’ Company, 10th Battalion, Suffolk Home Guard when it was formed in August 1942. His name is recorded in the official tribute to the organization entitled The Lion Roared his Defiance, photographed in and around Long Melford in 1944.[2] Died: Great Cornard, Suffolk on 31.3.1994.[3]
