Selected Biographies

Woodforde, Miss Edith Anne – Born: Putney, Surrey on 11.5.1860.[1]  Parents: Woodforde Ffooks Woodforde (Barrister at Law) and Ann Oliver [née Beadon].  Family Connections: Sister to Woodforde Beadon Woodforde [b1852] and Emily Catherine Woodforde [b1863].  Home: 9 Clarendon Road, Putney, Surrey (1861), Main Street, Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire (1881), Brook House, Hall Street, Long Melford (1901), Sloane Cottage, The Green, Long Melford (1911) to [1918], Northleigh, Vicarage Road, Minehead, Somerset (1939) to [1947].  Service Record: Edith was a volunteer with the British Red Cross Society from May 1918 to April 1919.  She had previously been a Nurse at the Red Cross Hospital in Minehead, Somerset, before transferring to the Essex County Hospital in Colchester Essex.[2]  Died: Minehead, Somerset on 1.2.1947.[3]

Woodforde, Miss Emily Catherine – Born: Bristol, Gloucestershire on 7.6.1863.[4]  Parents: Woodforde Ffooks Woodforde (Barrister at Law) and Ann Oliver [née Beadon].  Family Connections: Sister to Woodforde Beadon Woodforde [b1852] and Edith Anne Woodforde [b1860].  Home: 2 Worcester Crescent, Clifton, Gloucestershire (1871), Main Street, Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire (1881), Brook House, Hall Street, Long Melford (1891 to 1901), Sloane Cottage, The Green, Long Melford (1911) to [1916], Wood End, Minehead, Somerset [1921], Northleigh, Vicarage Road, Minehead, Somerset (1939), Mount Royal Nursing Home, Minehead [1958].  Service Record: Emily was a volunteer with the British Red Cross Society and a member of the Red Cross Working Party in Long Melford from January 1916 to July 1918.  At the end of the War, she was awarded the Red Cross Workers Badge.[5]  Died: Minehead, Somerset on 25.6.1958.[6]

Woodforde, Woodforde Beadon – Born: Blaydon, Somerset in 1852.  Parents: Woodforde Ffooks Woodforde (Barrister at Law) and Ann Oliver [née Beadon].  Family Connections: Brother to Edith Anne Woodforde [b1860] and Emily Catherine Woodforde [b1863].  Home: 6 Clarendon Road, Putney, Surrey (1861), 2 Worcester Crescent, Clifton, Gloucestershire (1871), Main Street, Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire (1881), The Lodge, Breadsall, Derbyshire (1891 to 1911), Arundel, Duffield Road, Derby [1926].  Occupation: Solicitor (1881 to 1911).  Married: Elizabeth Hey in 1882.  Service Record: Woodforde was a member of 1st [Volunteer] Battalion, The Sherwood Foresters [Derbyshire Regiment], being promoted to the rank of Major in 1900 and to Honorary Colonel in 1904.[7]  Died: Breadsall, Derbyshire on 9.1.1925.[8]
