Long Melford Heritage Trust is a small and inspiring local charity run by volunteers who are passionate about Long Melford and its history. Over the last decade it has developed into one of the most imaginative and ambitious social history museum projects in the East of England.
Our mission is to explore over 2000 years of Long Melford’s history and heritage. With something for everyone – from school children to academics, tourists to family history enthusiasts – our ever-growing collections include objects related to the everyday life, customs and traditions of the local people of this area. We collect and preserve local heritage for future generations, recording people’s stories and memories along the way.
Since opening in 2012, the Centre – through interactive displays and exhibitions, schools visits and public events – has made a deep impact on the local community. And we’ve been growing even faster over the past year. Acquiring Charitable Trust status has inspired a big leap forward. Enjoying the support of a strong cohort of volunteers, we have robust links with other museums across East Anglia and – very importantly – the backing of The Association for Suffolk Museums. We are now working towards gaining accredited museum status.
