Durwin

Selected Biography

Durwin, Jeremiah – Born: Long Melford, Suffolk in 1747.  Parents: James and Janahi Durwin.  Occupation: Weaver [1766].  Married: Rebecca Dansie in 1774.  Service Record: Jeremiah enlisted with the West Suffolk Militia in 1766, transferring three years later to 33rd Regiment of Foot, returning to the Militia in 1774.  By the time of his discharge in 1813, due to infirmity and old age, he had risen to the rank of Extra Staff Sergeant.  He entered the Bedford Workhouse in 1811 at the age 62 in need of care, quoting his last regiment as 16th [Bedfordshire] Regiment of Foot.[1]  Died: He is buried in Holy Trinity Church, Long Melford on 20.5.1830.
