Selected Biography

Eldred, Harry Cyril Born: Thurston, Suffolk on 19.9.1891.[1]   Parents: Harry Eldred (Sausage Skin Manufacturer) and Kate [née Griss].  Home: Ash Cottage, Little Cornard, Suffolk (1901), Holgate Cottage, Little St Marys, Long Melford, Suffolk (1911), North Street, Steeple Bumpstead, Essex [1915], 23 St Catherines Road, Long Melford (1939) to [1968].  Occupation: Bicycle Repairer (1911), Motor Mechanic (1939).  Married: Minnie Lily Florence Underwood in 1923.  Service Record: Harry was conscripted on 11.12.1915 as Pte.DM2/137993 with the Mechanical Transport Learner Section of the Army Service Corps, transferring to 728th [Mechanical Transport] Company, ASC on 20.4.1917.  He was posted to France from 13.2.1918 where he transferred to an Auxiliary Petrol Company returning to England in October 1918 and being discharged four months later.[2] Died: Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk in 1968.
