Selected Biography

Hellen, Percy John – Born: Long Melford, Suffolk on 20.10.1889.[1] Parents: Thomas John Hellen (Plate Layer) and Eliza Hannah [née Perry].  Home: Station Road, Long Melford (1891 and 1901), 2 Witton Wood Lane, Frinton-on-Sea, Essex (1911), 227 Langer Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk (1939). Occupation: Porter for Great Eastern Railway (1911), Railway Guard (1939). Service Record: Percy enlisted as Pte.57224 with 20th [Training Reserve] Battalion, transferring as Pte.39318 to 1st Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, then as Spr.WR/284989 serving with the Railway Section, Royal Engineers.[2] Died: Felixstowe, Suffolk on 31.7.1940.[3]
