Selected Biography

Roe, Eric Robert – Born: Church Eaton, Staffordshire on 2.4.1921.[1]  Parents: Eli Percy Roe of Adbaston, Staffordshire (Farmer) and Rosa May [née Ellsmoor].  Home: Orslow, Newport, Church Eaton, Staffordshire (1921), Rodbridge Farm, Rodbridge, Long Melford (1939).  Occupation: Farmer’s Assistant (1939).  Married: Florence Elfreda Barbara Rutterford in 1951.  Service Record: Eric was a member of the ‘H’ Company, 10th Battalion, Suffolk Home Guard when it was formed in August 1942.  His name is recorded in the official tribute to the organization entitled The Lion Roared his Defiance, photographed in and around Long Melford in 1944.[2]  Died: Boston, Lincolnshire on 1.6.1999.
