Selected Biographies

Whitmore, Frederick William – Born: Monks Eleigh, Suffolk on 2.1.1921.[1]  Parents: Frederick William Charles Whitmore (Elementary School Teacher) and Selena [née Hubbard] [see their details below].  Family Connections: Brother to Wilson Ernest Whitmore [b1899] and Geoffrey Whitmore [b1901].  Home: The Croft, High Street, Monks Eleigh, Suffolk (1921 to 1939).  Service Record: During the Second World War Frederick was a Clerical Administrator for the Monks Eleigh Air Raid Precaution Service.[2]  Died: Tunbridge Wells, Kent on 21.9.1999.[3]

Whitmore, Frederick William Charles – Born: Colchester, Essex in 1866.  Parents: Frederick William Whitmore (Grocer) and Emily Jane [née Wilson].  Family Connections: Father to Wilson Ernest Whitmore [b1899], Geoffrey Whitmore [b1901] and Frederick William Whitmore [b1921].  Home: Chapel Street, Colchester, Essex (1871), New Street, Freeingfield, Suffolk (1881), Stoneylands, Walton, Suffolk (1891), Remark House, Nelson Terrace, Felixstowe, Suffolk (1901), School House, Stanstead, Suffolk (1911), The Croft, High Street, Monks Eleigh, Suffolk (1921 to 1939).  Occupation: Student Teacher (1881), Assistant Schoolmaster (1891), Elementary Teacher (1911 to 1921).  Married: Selena Hubbard in 1898.  Service Record: Frederick was a member of the Long Melford Volunteer Training Corps from 1915.[4]  During the Second World War he acted as the Air Raid Precaution Organiser for the Monks Eleigh parish.[5]  Died: Monks Eleigh, Suffolk on 18.3.1940.[6]

Whitmore, Geoffrey – Born: Felixstowe, Suffolk on 15.7.1901.[7]  Parents: Frederick William Charles Whitmore (Elementary School Teacher) [see details above] and Selena [née Hubbard] [see details below].  Family Connections: Brother to Wilson Ernest Whitmore [b1899] and Frederick William Whitmore [b1921].  Home: School House, Stanstead, Suffolk (1911).  Occupation: Merchant Seaman [1918 to 1929].  Service Record: Geoffrey joined the Merchant Navy in November 1918 serving to 1929.[8]

Whitmore, Mrs Selina ‘Lena’ [née Hubbard] – Born: Ipswich, Suffolk on 2.1.1881.[9]  Parents: George Last Hubbard (Shoemaker) and Emma [née Oldman] (Laundress).  Family Connections: Mother to Wilson Ernest Whitmore [b1899], Geoffrey Whitmore [b1901] and Frederick William Whitmore [b1921].  Home: 14 Newton Street, Ipswich, Suffolk (1881), High Street, Walton, Woodbridge, Suffolk (1891), Remark House, Nelson Terrace, Felixstowe, Suffolk (1901), School House, Stanstead, Suffolk (1911), The Croft, High Street, Monks Eleigh, Suffolk (1921 to 1939).  Occupation: School Mistress (1921 to 1939).  Married: Frederick William Charles Whitmore in 1898.  Service Record: During the Second World War Lena was a member of the Monks Eleigh Air Raid Precaution First Aid Squad.[10] (1939).

Whitmore, Wilson Ernest – Born: Felixstowe, Suffolk on 20.4.1899.[11]  Parents: Frederick William Charles Whitmore (Elementary School Teacher) and Selena [née Hubbard] [see their details above].  Family Connections: Brother to Geoffrey Whitmore [b1901] and Frederick William Whitmore [b1921].  Home: Remark House, Nelson Terrace, Felixstowe, Suffolk (1901), School House, Stanstead, Suffolk (1911), Sunnicott, Seabrook Road, Hythe, Kent (1921), Ivy Cottage, Wool, Dorset (1939), 40 Bensham Lane, Croydon, Surrey [1960].  Married: Dulcie May Money in 1924 and Magnolia C. de’Castro in 1957.  Service Record: Wilson was a member of the Long Melford Volunteer Training Corps in 1915.  Having graduated from Oxford University he became a Cadet in the Officer Training Corps, granted a commission in 1925 and by 1939 was serving as a Lieutenant with the Royal Tank Corps.[12]  Died: Lisbon, Portugal on 25.9.1960.[13]
